Ramsbottom and Gallowalkers

16:38 Jul 31 2013
Times Read: 598

There’s no doubt about it, Barry and I went our travels on the best day of the weekend. We had picked up his nephew Mike, then went to Bury Market, then onto The Burrs in Ramsbottom, ending up after a walk, having a coffee at the weir. A short while later Barry had taken my photo on the mousetrap for me. And, what impressed me of the place was two-fold; the good use of former industrial land and, there were litter bins on the walk, not obtrusive, but they were there. And, that had impressed me.

Well, come the Sunday we finally got heavy rain and some lightning, after I’d hand-cut the long grasses on the front lawn. Come the evening I watched Wesley Snipes in ‘Gallowwalkers’, now there’s a film to recommend, if one likes westerns with supernatural characters.

And, we got the rain we’d been waiting form well I’d been waiting for. I even went a much-needed walk, to get my money, in the rain and thunder. That said, a couple of hours every day is spent looking for on the government’s jobsite, looking for jobs that don’t exist. And boy, is that frustrating…

assault, no pepper

Some days I feel the need to write and, Thursday was one of those days. Oh, it had started well enough, with a walk to the chemist to get my meds after doing the housework with Dad; on a morning after heavy rain and, not the lightning that had been expected. A blue-sky, sun and a cool breeze: aye, it’d been a good way to start the morning. I got home and went to the dole, which I now sign-on each week, like many, who have finished the work programme. Needless to say they’re been the obligatory waffle and paperwork before I’d left for home, to get ready for the project, writing down he beginning’s of the new story. Well, I’d rested up awhile, then toddled off to Liverpool, being chatted to on Bromborough station by a young lady called Kate, on her way to a date and, a meal with her boyfriend. And, she lived at one time near the project and, obviously knew the area round the church quite well indeed.

Well, young Sarah was there, dressed conservatively, again and, was a real pleasure to seem as she always does the do, without instruction. Roger had told me we had a new volunteer, Elizabeth a Portugese lady [pronounced Elizabet] and also informed me it’d be our last night for five weeks, because of the renovations to the church and it’d electrics. Well, the night progressed well, until I’d been about to close the big double doors at the front of the church were we serve, when three very late arrivals turned up, the friends of a irregular regular customer. “You said turn up at seven thirty,” she’d told him, when I’d said we were closing up. That was when I’d reminded them it was about eight and, everything was gone. She had accepted what I’d said, but the third friend had asked me, “So, what are you doing?” “Closing up,” I’d relied, trying to sound pleasant, while feeling a tad intimidated. “No you’re not,” this fellow in a yellow top with black wraparound shades had declared, pushing me back against the table behine me and the, throwing a table onto me, with force. That’s when I’d shouted for help, which had arrived. I’d found a seat to sit and de-stress as Alicia and Marc had tidied up at the door and the new volunteer came and held my hand, between hers. When I’d learnt she was a healer I hadn’t been surprised, ‘coz for a short while, she did something positive, I felt. I finally got home after train hassles on the loop-line, to a Father who was irked I was late and still concerned about the new t.v I had spent much of he day working on for him. Anyway, I ate, then went through to my room to type, as I was distracted by the new film ‘Oblivion’, which I’d acquired the previous night. It’d nearly been the distraction I’d needed, but not quite and, I’d sat on my bed typing for hours, still well-wired, as I’d written of the incident that had rather spoiled my last day on the project, for awhile. And, sometimes, just sometimes one really has to write it out, at least, I do…

amongst others...

Midpoint through housework on the Monday, my Dad wiped his forehead and declared, “It’s too hot.’ He’d been right, much as we miss the sun and moan about it, this recent bout of sunny and overly humid weather had got to him, much as it had me. I did get to see my Aunty Marion and cousin Lesley in the early evening, having risen at seven, after reating my knees. It’d een good to see Lesley, who I used to adore as a kid. And, saying that, she maybe a little older than me, but my, she still looks good: my tango dancing slim-line, classy-looking cousin. And, it was a full moon; which I mention as I hadn’t slept at all well during the night, finally falling asleep at four, or so in the morning. Tuesday… well, all the day had been was the royal baby, which to be honest, matters not to me. Heck, over privileged people had a child – whoop – dee – doo. Meanwhile, I went to the village and learnt that the dole had put my money into my account, after the previous Thursday and, I’d be able to travel there the coming Thursday and, go to voluntary work… And, I cooked a good meal, before I rested awhile, before rising to go on the PC, to check out the doles jobsite page, amongst others…

a degree of genuine assistance.

Come Thursday I went to sign-on, as I expected, weekly. Now it had been hot and, I’d dressed smartly and, I hadn’t been booked in or expected and, as I’d stressed about being disbelieved, with a threat of possible sanctions my back had gone into spasm, on the right side, as I had reached for my back. Well, as it happens, they did realise that I’d been in the right and, given me a degree of genuine assistance.

I got home to find that dad’s t.v. had finally died, thankfully I had a replacement I’d acquired from Karl, a colour portable with no remote. Well, I got it working for him, yet explaining it had been tiring indeed. And then I’d gone to voluntary work.Well needless to say, by the time I got home I was shattered. After resting my eyes, I had woken at four in the morning, still sitting up on my bed.

After shopping I went to Liscard, to see Mandy, before she went on her hols. It’d been rally good to see her. I got home in time to cook and I’d made a tuna casserole, a damn good one at that. Then, much later, I’d watched, ‘Flying Monkey’s.’ And, it hadn’t been a waste of my time.; in fact, I’d found it quite entertaining, much as I had ‘Escape From Earth’, which I’d watched with Barry…

a flowering Yukka?

At the end of another hot day, I went to my friend Grahams to help him do the maintenance for his Dell machine, the one I covet. As, the evening progressed; I had enjoyed my evening with him, as I did what had to be done, so that it ran more efficiently. As he saw me out he pointed out to me the plan to his immediate left of the door, a flowering Yukka, which I’d never seen before. Needless to say, I’d taken a photo of it, before going home, to acquire an .avi of ‘Nude Nuns With Big Guns.’ It took awhile, but I figure it was worth it…

...he’d groped Sophie Aldred's bum!

22:58 Jul 15 2013
Times Read: 636

Well, come Thursday I had my post Work-Programme interview at Bromborough office, not Birkenhead; as I’d wanted. And as I’d left, I’d taken a letter with me, with details of my next time and date for signing-on. It had also said that an interview may take an hour and I’d not been surprised, as my interviewer seemed a portent of what will follow, as she’d ben quite in depth. Yet, she had not known why I was not at all willing to sign-on at Birkenhead, or that I am fearful of the place. Needless to say, I’d explained why. When I’d mentioned Lyn Costello, she’d said, “I know her” and, I’d felt like saying, “You should, she’s one of the senior managers there. Anyway, from reading the literature I was presented with, I am sure ‘they’ are going to try and shove me on a course, of some sort. Either way, I will have to spend 20 hours looking for jobs on their website and, sign weekly. And my changes are happening now: much of which will be rolled out in October, when our ‘pay’ goes monthly Now, that will affect many, as will Housing Benefit being paid direct to the tenant, rather than to the landlord. Now, that’ll prove ‘interesting’ for many, already hard up.

Come Friday evening it was back to having three volunteers and Roger. And, truth be told, the evening went better than expected , after the events of the previous week, when we’d had loads of volunteers and, little things had got missed out, simply ‘coz they’d been chattering away.

Then come Friday, Barry called round with two bits of good news, for me. First and best had been the news that the guarantee that had gone with my camera was for six months, not the three months I’d originally believed. So, I had a camera for Saturday.

Come Saturday I was up and dressed with my bag packed and ready to travel at about 11:00 to be at the Doctor Who convention for 1:00 p.m. I had not considered the fact that there’d be serious delays with the train and, I’d have to travel some of the journey by bus, packed with people, on a very hot day.

After a bit of a walk I got to the pub where the convention was being held. I’d made my way through the doors and asked if there was a ticket for me. The young man with the tickets had looked through a big pile and said, ‘no’ then looked through a second smaller pile, which was where my ticket had been. I’d offered the sum that I’d been told to take with me. When he’d shown his surprise I was thankful that the fellow next to him knew of the arrangement and, I’d got ushered through.

As I entered where everyone was sat I noticed that Sophie Aldred was already being interviewed. As she had been speaking I decided to stand back and watch and listen.

Much later, I’d been holding myself up with the back of a chair, when Erica, the organiser, appeared before me, with a beaming smile: “You alright? You having a good time?” “Oh yes,” I’d explained, then added, “I arrived late, so sat back as Sophie was in interview. And boy, she’s looking hot…” As I spoke the word hot, who should walk behind me and appear to my left where my friend Peter stood at the bar getting a pint in. It’s only later that he admitted the back of his hand grazed a pert buttock, that he realized through speaking to me was Sophie Aldred. In my version of the tale which I’d told Barry the next day as we travelled, he’d groped her bum!

‘Under The Dome’?

23:56 Jul 10 2013
Times Read: 642

Having had a series of ‘one of those days’ I was pleasantly surprised when Wednesday was a flipside event. It had begun with my appointment at the sensory shop, where I’d tested two types of roast chicken gravy, then a pig in a blanket, finishing up tasting cherries. Then I got home and found a letter waiting for me, from the dole of all people. It seemed that I’d got part of what I wanted, an interview from the post work programme provider at my local office, rather than Birkenhead; that and, if I read correctly, I might get some of the courses I want out of them. Anyway, that’s a treat for Thursday at 11:00 and, a plethora of evidence in my folder…

Barry visited in the evening and, after he left I looked for and found several new ways to sit, while my back cracked, as I watched the new episode of ‘Under The Dome’, the story of which I figure Stephen King acquired, after watching an episode of ‘Eureka’…

I'll have cooked

So the darned government sell off a signal next to that we use for t.v. and, then the private company they use only provides one necessary at800 filter per household. Well, after making enquires I found out that a second would cost £15 from Amazon, which is expensive for what it is and, sold online early: and I don’t shop online. Then I heard them talking about the issue on Thursday on The Roger Phillips Show, on Radio Merseyside. So like several others affected by ‘yet another Freeview change’.

I had phoned in to ask a question. Then, after voicing my opinion about this foisted on us, I’d asked if a man of eighty-six might be eligible for a second filter. Eventually the at800 representative had agreed online, which later turned out to be useful, a short while later. I had used one of the two phone numbers I’d been given on air and a young man had answered. After I’d explained my position, the young man had spoken with his superior, after putting me on hold. ‘Is it alright if I phone you back? What you heard was contrary to what we understand, so we’d like to hear what he said, before we answer.’ ‘Uh-huh,’ I’d answered, then explained, ‘I’ll be in from two till five, then it’s off to voluntary work.’ Well, the young man had phoned back, making a big deal about the fact that his boss had said they’d oblige my request, but that I had to understand, it was purely a “one-off”. He’d made it sound like he was doing me a favour, whilst all he was doing fulfil the verbal contract I’d already come to, with his bosses Boss: the goldarn so-an-so kid.

Then come the evening we actually had more volunteers than we needed; yet only two were doing anything, while the rest chatted. I’d been one of those two working. Needless to say, after that I’d been wired, well-wired, most of the night, only getting to sleep in the early hours. And, I had to be up early, to go shopping with Dad…

Anyway, my head’s been so chockered, with this dole nonsense, which has occupied much of my brain… I forgot a penfriends birthday.

And then, as a good day out in New Brighton ended on Saturday, the shutter on the camera died, after I’d taken many and, three day’s out of it’s guarantee. Heck, when Barry and I got to the shop in Ellesmere Port where I got it, the shop had closed ten minutes prior. So, that means, no camera for the coming Doctor Who convention in West Kirby… Ah well, at least I can go! And, best still – not only can I go, but also the antihistamine tablets I’m taking mean that hayfever won’t ruin it for me and, the filter arrived on the Friday… Sheesh, took them just two days to get it to me! Oh aye, as Murray was playing, our tea was getting ready. So we’d gone to eat, with me turning of the set, as I kept getting distracted. When we came back to the living-room and, Dad had turned the set back on… Murray had won, by three straight sets!

And as I write, I still don’t know what the dole intend for me over this whole Birkenhead thing – and, ‘tween that and the camera, I Need more pleasant distraction!

I don’t need a large portion of a front tooth falling off at the end of a hot day when I’ve done a lot of gardening. That happened Monday night… Sheesh! Yet, after asking for emergency treatment I had got done an hour a half later and, can Now eat tea. {I'll have cooked.}

where will that leave me?

02:02 Jul 04 2013
Times Read: 655

Come Tuesday I hit the pits, after a succession of small incidents really peed me off. First the usb had finally been found, but I still had the discs all over the room, as I tried to sort out what I had lost in a few collections of series. Needless to say, I’d had to do something, so I left my ‘troubles’ at home and had gone to Karls. His company had been needed and, did the job. I slept well. Anyway, come Wednesday there were still the discs to collate and, I did so, albeit very slowly. Meanwhile, I baked some Rock Buns and made a chicken casserole and, did some weeding. As I was cooking, the phone had rung: it’d been a young man from Birkenhead dole asking where I was.

“I did not get an appointment,” I’d told him. Now, this fellow knew nothing of my fear of that office and, I’d had to explain it to him and something of my physical limitations… Now, as all who finish the work programme in the Wirral have to sign-on in Birkenhead office soon {the place hat I had left feeling suicidal} and, I found myself wondering yet again, ‘where will that leave me?”

Ramsbottom makes me smile

01:34 Jul 02 2013
Times Read: 657

Barry called at 9:30 on Saturday and, I’d already had my bag packed, ready to motor.

He had brought two new albums to play, for the journey, one Deep Purple, which had brought back some excellent memories from our respective pasts.

His nephew Mike had supposed o be coming with us, but after a night out, he had not been up and around when we’d called round. So we’d begun our day without him.

We’d gone to Bury first, so that Barry good give a swing to his grandson, for his first birthday, then gone to Bury Market, which I still think is the best market I’ve been to.

Heck, there were so many samples of tasty foods offered that as we both decided we had an empty space’ definitely filled. From there we went to Ramsbottom and, the collectors shop, prior to going to Nuttall Park, for a picnic. Then, on the homeward journey Barry had put some Dire Straights, which had taken us both back to the ‘Brother In Arms’ gig we had gone to, ‘all those years ago.’ I got home about quarter to six and, after a long day out my body had been more than a tad tired, while my mind had been more than a tad hyper. So while I wrote, I watched ‘Evil Toons’, after seeing Dad back to bed, with a pill of mine, that matched those he sometimes takes. Gawd, I swear down, I do wish he wouldn’t go to bed so early at times… Yet, that said, I don’t think falling asleep during the ‘Horizon’ documentary on Black Holes that we’d sat to watch at none had helped…
